The Pacific Violence Prevention Institute's Bullying and Harassment Prevention PROGRAMS FOR ADULTS

Faculty and staff have a professional, and in many areas, a legal obligation to intervene in acts of bullying and harassment, and to take steps to create an atmosphere where students feel safe.  The main objective for all school employees should be to provide the opportunity for every student to experience academic and social success.  It is very difficult for students to be successful if they are experiencing bullying and harassment, as victims, perpetrators, or bystanders. 

Unfortunately, in today’s schools, faculty and staff are often faced with larger class size, reductions in funding for certificated and classified staff, and enrollment numbers far beyond the intended capacity of the building, making it difficult to effectively respond to violence.  These overwhelming circumstances make it difficult to recognize and respond to acts of violence on the “less severe” end of the continuum.

The PVPI has developed a number of programs designed to help adults recognize and respond to acts of bullying and harassment.  Before developing any program for your organization, our staff will examine state and local laws regarding bullying and harassment, as well as any local or state school district policy, and will then incorporate the policies and procedures already in place into these programs.  In doing so, all participants will become more familiar with the policies and procedures already in place, and will learn skills to more effectively apply these policies and procedures to their school.
